Refugee Programmes

Young Refugees

North Yorkshire Together delivers activities to support refugees living in hotels across North Yorkshire.

These sessions aim to improve the quality of life for people who have arrived in the UK and are now temporarily living in the Selby and Hambleton District.

Our sessions are designed to:

  • Build self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Develop and maintain the ability to manage personal and social relationships
  • Create learning opportunities to develop new skills
  • Encourage positive group atmospheres
  • Build the capacity to consider leadership, make reasoned decisions and take control
  • Help develop a ‘world view’ that widens horizons and invites social commitment

What the sessions involve

Our sessions include a huge variety of activities – and importantly, are led by the interests and needs of the specific groups we’re working with.

In Hambleton District, we work with children and families, rotating between creative and physical activities each week. This will include things like jewellery making, music and drama, painting and more.

In Selby District we work with adult men, running physical activity sessions. This includes indoor activities like HIIT workouts and bodyweight sessions, as well as outdoor group games like cricket or football.
