The festive season is a time for joy, togetherness, and of course, good food. But for many families, school holidays can also bring financial strain, particularly when it comes to putting meals on the table. That’s where FEAST comes in — North Yorkshire’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, designed to ensure children and young people have access to fun activities and healthy food during the school holidays.
Christmas support from FareShare
This Christmas, the wonderful team at FareShare stepped up to support FEAST by donating food supplies to North Yorkshire Together. Their contributions made a real difference to three key providers:
Wild Explorers
- Received 106kg of food, valued at approximately £459
- An additional £45 donation towards provision
Nigel Carson Sport
- Received 105kg of food, valued at approximately £402
- An additional £90 donation towards provision
Bentham & Ingleton Youth Club
- Received 120kg of food, valued at approximately £515
- An additional £45 donation towards provision
These generous donations included snacks, kettle foods, and cupboard staples, ensuring children and young people had access to nutritious meals throughout the Christmas holidays.
Katie Fox, owner of Wild Explorers, shared her experience of working with FareShare:
“FareShare provided us with a range of food and drink that we were able to share with our visiting children over the Christmas period. The scheme worked brilliantly well — their communication was clear from start to finish, delivery was easy, and the team were very friendly. We were able to offer children good variety and choice from the donations we received from FareShare. What a fantastic initiative; we were very grateful to be involved.”
More than just a meal
FareShare is a charity dedicated to redistributing quality surplus food — good-to-eat food that would otherwise go to waste. By tackling both food waste and food insecurity, they are turning an environmental challenge into a social solution. The organisations they supply not only provide meals but also offer crucial support to families facing economic hardship.
