In 2021, the Department for Education (DfE) announced the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, to reduce the opportunity gap and offer eligible children the chance to take part in fun and free school holiday activities. This is a three-year funding settlement for every Local Authority in England to deliver enriching activities and healthy food to eligible young people, with a focus on children on benefits-related Free School Meals, across the Easter, summer and Christmas holidays.
In North Yorkshire, the HAF programme is called ‘FEAST’ – a name developed by young people, standing for ‘Food, Entertainment, Arts and Sport Together’. North Yorkshire Council have commissioned North Yorkshire Together – the partnership between registered charities North Yorkshire Sport, North Yorkshire Youth and Rural Arts – to coordinate FEAST.
